Given: Large cylindrical logs, some up to 30 ft long and 30 inches in diameter, serve as benches on Stearn's Wharf in Santa Barbara. Assume the weight density of the wooden logs is 40 lb/ft3 (pcf). Req'd: Determine the size (capacity) of the crane required to place the logs. Assume the cranes come in 2-ton (4000 lb) increments, i.e.: 2-ton, 4-ton, 6-ton, etc. |
